Santorum events in Sarasota and Charlotte go on without candidate

/ Sunday, January 29, 2012

Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum had to cancel his appearances in Sarasota and Charlotte counties today, but that didn’t stop the events from going on.

Santorum had to return to Pennsylvania to be with his daughter Bella who had been hospitalized, according to the Santorum campaign.

“Due to the health of his youngest daughter Bella, Rick Santorum will remain with his family today,” campaign spokesman Hogan Gidley said.

But a rally in Sarasota and a GOP dinner in Punta Gorda still were scheduled to go on with surrogates speaking on Santorum’s behalf.

In Sarasota, where more than 2,000 people were expected to attend a rally at Dolphin Aviation, Santorum’s eldest daughter Elizabeth was scheduled to fill in. In Punta Gorda, members of the Jim Bob Duggar family were scheduled to fill in for Santorum.
